Boxes. Everywhere. Scattered across the floor, couch, tables. Though the boxes were neatly labeled, none of things in the boxes actually matched the label.

He was finally moving in. They would finally share a kitchen, every morning and every night, a couch every Thursday for The Apprentice, and a bed for more than just one night.

His address would have to be changed, the water bill would be a bit more expensive, little things. Little things that he would never let get in the way of her.

She sat on the floor, back up against one of the boxes labeled “bedroom,” which really contained his collection of sports memorabilia. In khaki shorts and a white tank top, she looked simple with her slight sun-burned cheeks from being outside all day and blonde-brown hair. But to him, she looked beautiful.

“So I think that’s it,” Jim said as he plopped his body down next to Pam’s.

“Mm, good,” Pam replied, resting her head on Jim’s built shoulder. “I’m too tired to lift anymore boxes. Her eyes were closed.

An angel, Jim thought. His angel.

“What are you talking about?” Jim laughed. “I did almost everything.”

“Fine,” Pam said, returning his laughter with her own. “I’m tired of watching you lift boxes.”

They sat in the middle of the floor, Pam drifting off into Jim’s shoulder, his fingers tangled in her curly hair. He breathed in and out slowly, carefully collecting every scent of that moment.

Pam’s hair, apples, from her shampoo. The kitchen, burnt popcorn, from the previous night’s Will Ferrell movie fest. And finally, as her eyes blinked open, her smile, tiny and soft, and Jim would say smelled like honey or something equally sweet. These were the scents. These were their scents.

“This is really happening,” Pam said softly, not looking up at Jim. “You and me, we’re really happening.”

“Yeah,” Jim replied in her same soft tone. “It is.”

They sat for a while longer, bodies close, arms entangled in each other, before Jim broke the peaceful silence. “On a scale of one to ten, how exciting is this?”

Pam considered is question for a moment. “Eight.”

Pam said nothing, but simply kept her eyes closed and that same tiny smile across her lips.

Jim slowly dipped a finger under Pam’s chin, lifting it up to his face, and placed his lips to hers.

Pam smiled into their kiss, something they did quite often. Holding hands, kissing, and the occasional bedroom romp were all very active things in their relationship. Now that they were close, they never wanted to let go.

With a quick smile, Jim latched his hands to Pam’s hips, thumbs locked in her belt loops. He carefully pulled Pam down to the ground, so they were laying side by side, lips parted but hands laced together.

“So,” Jim began, staring thoughtfully up at the ceiling. “What about now?”

“What about now…” Pam repeated. “Ten.”

Thank you! They are so much more fun to write angst-free, I think. Glad you liked it!
